Dheisheh -- Refugee Camp in the West Bank

Fifty Years Later, a "Temporary Camp" remains.

Residents of the West Bank who left Israel during the war of 1948-49 were housed in temporary tent cities, and have been known since then as refugees. The children of Deisheh are likewise known as refugees, even though they have never lived anywhere else. Children can name the village, now in Israel, where they came from.

Dheisheh School Chorus

In 1949, Dheisheh was a tent city of temporary refugees who had fled Israel during the fighting. Now more than 50 years old, the "camp" no longer looks temporary. Nonetheless, refugees talk of returning to their real homes elsewhere.
