Activities Scheduled for 2007/2008

Recurring Events:

Yosemite / Mariposa Audubon monthly meetings are held the second Thursday of each month October through May at 7 p.m. at the Mariposa Methodist Church parish hall on 6th St. between Hwy. 140 and Bullion St. Mariposa.

Field Activities

October 20, 2007:

Mariposa Creek from Best Western to Idle Wheel's. This trip will be a beginners field trip. Meet at Mariposa Art Park in Mariposa at 9:00 a.m.

November 17, 2007:

Hornitos Rd. to Mc Swain forebay. Meet in town at the rest stop by History Museum at 8:00 a.m.

December 16, 2007:

Yosemite Christmas Bird Count, Mariposa County: Compiler: Steve Thompson: Coordinator: Sarah Stock

January 19, 2008:

Yosemite Lake area. Meet in town at the rest stop by History Museum at 8:00 a.m.

February 16, 2008:

Merced Wildlife Refuge. Participants will meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Mariposa Rest Area adjacent to the history center to carpool. The trip is free and the public is welcome. Bring binoculars, field guides, lunch, beverages and insect repellent.

March 15, 2008:

White Rock Road to its end and home via Ben Hur Rd.. Meet at the Fairgrounds at 8:00 a.m.

April 19, 2008:

Yosemite Area Audubon Society birding trip to the San Joaquin Experimental Range south of Coarsegold. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds to carpool. Oakhurst residents can meet the Mariposa group about 8:45 in the parking lot between Oka and Sears. Suitable for beginners, public welcome, free. Bring binoculars, field guides, lunch and beverages. Yosemite Bird Festival - First weekend in May

May 10, 2008:

Yosemite Area Audubon Society birding trip to Yosemite Valley and Foresta. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Midpines County Park on Hwy. 140 to carpool. Suitable for beginners, public welcome, free (park pass or $20 entrance fee required to enter park). Bring binoculars, field guides, lunch and beverages. Call (209) 742-5579 for more information. [Note: This replaces the trip originally scheduled for May 17.]

Guidelines for all Field Trips:

  1. Rain will cancel the trip.

  2. Always bring a lunch and drink.

  3. The weather can and often changes during our trips, so be prepared for cold or hot weather.

  4. Fewer vehicles is always best. Offer the driver some gas money

  5. If you have walkie-talkies, please bring them

  6. If you don't have a pair of binoculars, come anyway. Some one always has an extra pair that you can use
